“Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing.  My brethren, these things ought not to be so.”  James 3:10

This  month St. Patrick’s Day, Good Friday and Easter fall together this year, my mind started thinking about these two words, lucky and blessed.  Searching various translations of the Bible, I could only find the word luck or lucky in the Amplified translation in Leviticus 19:25, “You shall not eat anything with the blood; neither shall you use magic, omens, or witchcraft [or predict events by horoscope or signs and lucky days]. Also, in Esther 3:7 and 9:24 referencing “lucky days” and Haman’s plot against the Jewish people during the time Esther was Queen.  The conclusion is that the child of God does not live life depending on luck.

How many times do we use the work luck or lucky when we really mean to use bless or blessed?  We know each day and our future do not depend on luck.   As believers we understand that we are blessed to be under the God’s care and are not just living a random life.  We should not attribute it to luck, but see the blessing of God’s love providing for our every need.

Complacency

I used to not understand how people could not heed the warnings when inclement weather was headed their way…now that I’ve lived in DC for a year, it actually makes a lot more sense.

Since moving to DC, I have lived “through” a Derecho, Hurricane Sandy and the “Snowquester.” The Derecho didn’t even knock out my power, Hurricane Sandy was nothing more than a thunderstorm similar to an Arizona monsoon storm and the “Snowquester” snowed just enough to turn to slush then melt within 24 hours.

Blessings(Listen and meditate on the message of this song before we begin), Blessings by Laura Story  http://youtu.be/4mmgV6mPvb0

This song has been a favorite of mine since I first heard it several years ago. Our son in law Kraig was discouraged because of his physical heath and this song brought comfort and continues to today.

Reflecting on events from the past, each of us can claim disappointment and sorrow, but today let’s again ask ourselves these questions.

ANOTHER YEAR to get in touch with the things about me I want to change or the activities I want to do.  Many make New Year resolutions but I do not, they remind me of living under the law, if I make them and don’t or can’t keep them, then I feel guilty.  So I never make them.  The desire of my heart is to be continually filled and full of the Holy Spirit of God.  But, I don’t always feel that way.  Do I hear an Amen?

Reminded of the following scripture, once again, it is time to come to grips with the absolute glory of God, who He is and why I exist.  Continually praising Him for His grace, mercy and love.  Knowing my sin and guilt are forever forgiven and I do not live under the law.

Acts 17:24-31
