Moses, A Journey Born in Disaster

Posted by Steve Marr in Untagged

Moses was born when his people when the Egyptians “made their lives bitter with hard labor.” (Exodus 1:14 NASB) In addition, the king ordered, “When you are helping the Hebrew woman to give birth and see them upon a birthstool, it is a son, then you shall put him to death…” (Exodus 1:16 NASB) Moses was born into disaster.

The mother of Moses, in a desperate effort to keep him alive, placed him in a basket, set adrift so he would be found.  Rather then dying, Moses was found by the Pharaoh’s daughter. Moses went from a baby likely to be killed, to a grand son of the Pharaoh. God orchestrated the change.

A Big Storm Requires A Big Church

Posted by Steve Marr in Untagged

The New York Times ran an editorial today titled “A Big Storm Requires A Big Government”. The full editorial is here: http://nyti.ms/VA8TeG . I would propose a Big Church is a better answer.

Storm Surge: Reality Check

Posted by Steve Marr in Untagged

As Hurricane Sandy comes ashore a Reality Check is helpful in understanding the characteristics and effects of a storm surge. We have all seen damage, heard harrowing stories, and seen the number of deaths that follow.  Hurricane Sandy is predicted to create a surge between 6 and 12 feet in many places. What does this actually mean?

In any potential disaster a wise person assesses the threats, and then takes action. Sandy presents several threats that may cause large scale and long-term damage. As Christians we need to take two steps, pray for the Lords intervention while preparing for our families, and others.

Sandy Threatens Massive Power Outages

Posted by Steve Marr in Untagged

As Hurricane Sandy moves to merge with a cold front and create a 2012 “Perfect Storm”, massive power outages are expected. The map below from the Weather Channel shows likely outages across many states, and far inland.

The storm will affect so many people you must have preparations ready in advance. FEMA or local governments will not be able to meet all needs. Most needed items should already have been purchased. News reports indicate stores near the coast have already run out of many supplies. Acts now, do not wait even an hour.
