When the power goes out we are forced to use alternative lighting.  Most of us have one or more flashlights available. While these work OK, consider getting a small headlamp. You can fasten these around your head, leaving your hands free for work or to carry things.

When the power goes out we use candles, oil lamps or flashlights. All have some limited life. When we go to bed we turn these off.

CBS News in New York reports many storm victims are experiencing medical problems. Some of the common ailments include injuries from clean up and repair, asthma, rashes, sore throats, nausea, breathing problems and lung infections.

With power still out for many homeowners in New York, New Jersey and parts of New England, colder temperatures highlight the need for back up heat.  Most heating systems won’t work without electricity. A standard fireplace doesn’t give much heat, especially for the amount of wood used.
