I believe God made me for a purpose, but he also made me fast. And when I run I feel His pleasure. Eric Liddell
Many of us are drawn into the Olympics in London viewing the outcome of athletes that have dedicated years to obtain the coveted Gold Medal. Years spent perfecting their sport. Each one committed to hours of emotional fatigue, mental focus, physical exertion, but in particular I am encouraged by the number of athletes who express their spiritual faith in God for giving them their talent.
Observing the various events I can’t help but be drawn to God’s word applying His truth to each of us as we run our individual race, for instance;
“Do you not know that in a race all runners run,
but only one receives the prize?
So run that you may obtain it.” I Corinthians 9:24
We all win the Gold as believers in our blessed Savior, Jesus Christ.
We do not run alone; we have the support and encouragement of the Body of Christ.
“So we, numerous as we are, are one body in Christ (the Messiah) and individually we are parts of one another [mutually dependent on one another]. Having gifts (faculties, talents, qualities) that differ according to the grace given us, let us use them: [He whose gift is] prophecy, [let him prophesy] according to the proportion of his faith.” Romans 12:5-6
Can you imagine the sound of the audience cheering you on to victory?
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, Hebrews 12:1
At times the emotional, mental, physical effects on our body can be overwhelming, but the spiritual reward is a prize that is available to all who run the race on God’s team.
The American long distance runner, Ryan Hall, listed God as his Coach. When asked by and official to name a real person, Hall responded, “He is a real is a real person”.
Other athletes are giving God praise, glory and honor as they cross the finish line. Each confession of their trust in God brings tears of joy to all who believe that the race we run is for His glory and His alone.
Let us therefore, “press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:14
See you at the “Finish Line”!
