Late today a sudden storm struck without warning in Anthem Arizona causing significant flooding and damage. Anthem, like most of Arizona is noted for sunny skies, and a desert climate. Not today.

Early this evening 60-mile per hour wind, heavy rain and hail pelted the town. While damage reports are still incomplete a number of homes received flood damage. A dozen motorists were rescued from 5 different cars caught in the flooding. Power was lost to thousands of homeowners. Many streets were flooded, damaging scorers of cars.

Tonight, CEN operations Manager Mike Marshall responded with members of three churches, did an assessment of some flooded homes, offered assistance and prayer for the families. Others are responding by organizing to clear debris, downed trees and clean up yards.

This storm drives home the point; disasters, large and small can, and do strike everywhere. We need to be ready. While on the scale of major disasters, this event will not become major national news. To the families affected, this will be a major event.
