QUESTION: If Jesus truly is the only name that matters to me (or you), what is keeping me from proclaiming His name “at all times”?

SUGGESTIONS: I (we) get involved with other activities such as…..?

“Happy is that people, that is in such a case: yea, happy is that people, whose God is the LORD.” (Psalm 144:15)

"Relying on the aid to be derived from the other departments of the Government, I enter on the trust to which I have been called by the suffrages of my fellow-citizens with my fervent prayers to the Almighty that He will be graciously pleased to continue to us that protection which He has already so conspicuously displayed in our favor.”  (President James Monroe, the closing of his first inaugural address on March 4, 1817)

Is forcing ourselves to face our dislikes the only way to increase our self-discipline? While exercises like this are probably more helpful than they sound, why not increase general self-discipline by advancing in spiritual self-discipline? Romans 13:14 says, "But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfill the lusts thereof." The active increase of spiritual discipline leads to denial of negative physical habits. Or, filling your life with Jesus Christ eliminates the room otherwise given to fulfilling unprofitable desires.  No disciplines are more important than the disciplines which cause you to be more filled with Jesus Christ. To develop the spiritual disciplines of prayerful Bible study, honest dependent praying, and consistent church attendance will naturally develop better overall self-discipline, even in menial areas.  --Troy Carlson

EMP Solar Flare

ElectroMagnetic Pulses (EMP) are something that sounds like they came out of a science fiction story. However, they are real and a threat that should be taken seriously. There are two types of EMPs, man-made and naturally occurring. While the man-made versions require a lot to make happen and are, thus, more unlikely, there are still naturally occurring threats that need to be taken seriously.

The Washington Examiner released an article earlier this week that explains how earth missed a massive solar flare two weeks ago that would have caused a large EMP effect on our planet.

See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise.  --Ephesians 5:15

'As you pursue a circumspect lifestyle, avoid the tendency to replace the secular hamster wheel with some kind of Christian version. The Christian life is not a hamster wheel at all; running furiously with no destination in view. Set clear goals that are biblical, spiritual, and eternal. Determine what steps are necessary to accomplish those goals, and pursue them wholeheartedly.Back away from impulsive decisions and spontaneous reactions. Avoid feverish schedules and suffocating task-lists. Instead, approach life with the sensible guidance of God’s Word and the calm confidence of quiet prayer. Wait on the Lord and depend on the Spirit. Plan to work hard, serve conscientiously, and rest intentionally at regular, appropriate times. I am thankful for a professor in college who frequently said, “When you study, really study. And when you take a break, really take a break.” This was terrific advice' (Thomas Overmiller)

"And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates." (Deuteronomy 6:6-9 ESV)

"So does the Word of God provide the dominant media influence in your life today...Allow me to share just a few ways that you can embrace the words of God in your life and the life of your family. May the Holy Spirit give you wisdom and power to establish God’s Word as the dominant media influence in your life:  1. Establish a regular devotional time for yourself to spend time in the Word of God.  2. Read a verse a mealtime; talk about it with your spouse and children while you eat.  3. Plan for regular family devotions.  4. Ask questions about something in the Word of God that is on your mind – ask your spouse, your friends, your children, your mentor, your parent, your pastor.  5. Establish a Scripture memory strategy.  6. Sing Scripture songs; hum your own little tunes for Scripture verses and record them on a voice recorder to reference later.  7. Hang Scripture verses and art on the walls of each room in your home.  8. Listen to audio Scripture recordings.  9. Obey the words of God.  10. And of course, be faithful to teaching and preaching gatherings at your own local church!"  (Thomas Overmiller)
