Ministry 9-1-1's Call of the day...

Posted by Dave Purdle in Untagged

There are many good people who are almost saved, but lost. They are depending on religion, or their own good works, or anything other than Jesus Christ to get them into Heaven. Popular religions will tell you there are many ways to get into Heaven, but the Bible says, “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under Heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6). Without putting our faith in Jesus Christ—there is no way to be saved. –Jason Shuler

Ministry 9-1-1's Call of the day...

“For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.” (Romans 8:15) — "Paul, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, used the picture of adoption into the family of God. Once we were “children of wrath” (Ephesians 2:3) and “children of disobedience” (Ephesians 2:2; 5:6); but God, in His mercy, has brought us into absolute possession of Himself. The old life has no more rights over us; God now has absolute right. The past is canceled, the debts of the past are wiped away, and we have begun a new life. In addition, we are heirs of all the riches of God (Romans 8:17a) and joint-heirs with Jesus Christ (Romans 8:17b).”  (Dr. David L. Burggraff)

“And say to Archippus, Take heed to the ministry which thou hast received in the Lord, that thou fulfill it.” (Colossians 4:17) — “Using My Talents for God’s Glory: 1] To Glorify Himself; 2] To Build Up the Body of Christ—The Local Church; 3] To Develop Unity in the Body of Christ; 4] To Develop Maturity in the Body of Christ; 5] To Grow the Body of Christ…Salvation will come to your heart when you put your faith in Jesus Christ alone for the forgiveness of your sins.  Spiritual Growth will never occur unless you use your gifts.  Make your life count for Christ and eternity.” (Pastor Scott Wendal)

Last week Sandie posed the question: If Jesus truly is the only name that matters to me (or you), what is keeping me from proclaiming His name “at all times”?

We discussed how we can easily fall into the traps of busyness and keeping up with life in general.  We ended with the scripture Acts 2:32-39…

This Jesus God has raised up, of which we are all witnesses. 33 Therefore being exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear. 34 “For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he says himself: ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand, 35 Till I make Your enemies Your footstool.” 36 “Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.” 37 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?” 38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”  ~ Acts 2:32-39 New King James Version (NKJV)

“Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?” (I Kings 3:9) — “God gave Solomon the kind of wisdom for which he had asked.  So, there is no reason to suppose that God would not have provided the wisdom Solomon needed for his marriage had he identified the need and asked for that kind of wisdom.  You may have God’s wisdom for your home!  How?  1} Recognize your need; 2} Reorder your priorities (cf. I Timothy 3:4-5); 3} Remember that your wisdom is no better than your actions.” (Wil Rice, IV)

“Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.” (Luke 6:38) — “Here are several ways to really enjoy a really dull sermon:  1} Stay awake and alert; 2} Find yourself in the sermon (i.e. be one of the characters spoken about); 3} Listen critically and analytically (i.e. Is his subject-matter appropriate to the general theme or text?); 4} Do your homework…if you know the minister’s subject in advance, read up on it; 5} Observe the Congregation…An inattentive or restless audience does not necessarily mean that a sermon is uninteresting or uninspiring; 6}Summarize the sermon. Do it in a sentence you can remember and you can tell others about…It takes two to make a sermon interesting, instructive and inspiring:  you and the preacher.”  (The Baptist Challenge)
