Advance Notice For An Earthquake?

Posted by Steve Marr in Untagged

One of the dangers of an earthquake is they strike without warning. One time I was in Mexico and in the middle of the night the earth shook. While the damage to the hotel was minimal,  I struggled to walk. My first reaction was to try to get out of the room. Fortunately, the quake stopped before I got very far. What could have been different if I had advanced warning? I could have stood under the door jam for extra protection, or ducked under the room desk for protection.  In the past, early warning systems were science fiction.

Today,  Early Warning Labs, a California start up company announced within three years they expect to release an early warning system.

Sanitize The Office

Posted by Steve Marr in Untagged

The cold and flu season is ramping up. One of the easiest and least costly weapons to fight the spread of germs and illness is the use of hand sanitizers.

Put one by each sink in the rest room, and attach one or more by doorways as people enter and exit your establishment.

Are You Building an Ark like Noah?

Posted by Mary Marr in Untagged

The writer of Hebrews covers the faith of many in the past (See Hebrews chapter 11). The writer says of Noah, “By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.” (Hebrews 11:7 NIV)

The faith of Noah was extraordinary

When God spoke to Noah and instructed him to build an ark, complete with detailed directions, (Genesis 6:13-21) “Noah did everything just as God commanded him.” (Genesis 6:22 NIV)

Is A Quarantine Biblical, and Sound Policy?

Posted by Steve Marr in Untagged

The introduction of Ebola into the United States has set off a firestorm of controversy whether people should be quarantined. I am not a medical doctor, so I will not weigh exactly how people should be quarantined, if at all. I will outline some realities to consider. Over 3,000 years ago we learn from Scripture “Anyone with such a defiling disease must wear torn clothes, let their hair be unkempt cover the lower part of their face and cry out, ‘Unclean! Unclean!’ As long as they have the disease they remain unclean. They must live alone; they must live outside the camp. “(Leviticus 13:45-46) Under the Law, people were required to be separated if they exhibited certain symptoms. Scripture supports the imposition of quarantine when needed.

I hold a license as a United States Customs Broker and have a working knowledge of import requirements of animals.

Samuel’s Warning

Posted by Steve Marr in Untagged

The people of Israel were stressed and cried out to Samuel for help. Scripture provides a picture of the moment in Samuel 12:19-25 NIV:

The people all said to Samuel, “Pray to the Lord your God for your servants so that we will not die, for we have added to all our other sins the evil of asking for a king.”

“Do not be afraid,” Samuel replied. “You have done all this evil; yet do not turn away from the Lord, but serve the Lord with all your heart. Do not turn away after useless idols. They can do you no good, nor can they rescue you, because they are useless. For the sake of his great name the Lord will not reject his people, because the Lord was pleased to make you his own.  As for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord by failing to pray for you. And I will teach you the way that is good and right. But be sure to fear the Lord and serve him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things he has done for you. Yet if you persist in doing evil, both you and your king will perish.”
